Member of the Taoiseach’s (Prime Minister) Advisory Committee on Dublin’s International Financial Services Centre. Leader of the Private Sector Side. (1987-2002)

Chairman of the Financial Services Industry Association, which represents the financial services sector in Ireland. It has over 200 member firms employing over 40,000 people. Member of the Executive Committee (1992-2000).

Member of Governing Authority of University College Dublin, (1997 – 2004) serving on the Finance Committee and Audit Committee. Previously served on the Strategy and Policy Committee and chaired The President’s Development Council and The UCD Foundation and other ad-hoc committees.

Royal Hibernian Academy. (2000 – 2006) Chairman of The RHA Foundation. The RHA, established in 1823, is the premier artist based organisation in Ireland. Elected an Honorary Member in 2006.

Chairman of the IBEC Trade Council (2003 – 2008) which organises IBEC trade policy and co-ordinates policy positions on ICT, Pharma, Financial Services etc, to the Irish and European governments and the European Commission. Member of the IBEC National Executive Council.

Member of the Asia Strategy High Level Group to advise the Irish Government on its Asia Strategy (2005-2010).

University College Dublin, 2004 - 2014 Independent Chairman of the Finance, Remuneration and Asset Management Committee, a sub-committee of the Governing Authority.
