Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1970, Ron was a Partner in KPMG from 1979 to 1998. This included a term as Managing Partner of KPMG Ireland and membership of the European and International Boards (1991-1995). He was in charge of the Firm’s Asia Pacific practice from 1979-1991, and focused on attracting foreign industry to Ireland. Chairman of Telecom Eireann (now eir plc) during which time the company negotiated a strategic alliance with KPN and Telia, agreed an ESOP with its employees and prepared for its IPO on the Dublin, London and New York Stock Exchanges. (1992 to 1999)

Member of Governing Authority of University College Dublin, (1997 – 2004) serving on the Finance Committee and Audit Committee. Previously served on the Strategy and Policy Committee and chaired The President’s Development Council and The UCD Foundation and other ad-hoc committees.
